Cari Confratelli,
in questa solennità di Pentecoste il Consiglio generale intende far giungere a ciascuno di voi il proprio saluto e l’augurio di una solida salute, in questo tempo ancora di pandemia, e quello di una ricca esperienza spirituale con il grande dono dello Spirito che ci viene dato.
È un mese, questo di maggio che finisce, che ha visto e toccato con mano quanto la Provvidenza del Padre non ci ha abbandonato, ma pur nelle difficoltà e sofferenze a causa del covid-19, ci ha fatto assaporare doni di predilezione e di grazia infiniti.
Proprio in questi giorni abbiamo avuto molti nuovi religiosi guanelliani che hanno professato per la prima volta o in perpetuo: Asia (India, Filippine, Vietnam), America Latina, Africa, Italia. Il Buon Dio ci sta benedicendo con la presenza ancora numerosa di seminaristi e chierici nelle nostre Case di formazione che hanno in questi giorni rinnovato la loro consacrazione a Dio per un anno e hanno celebrato le tappe dei Ministeri del Lettorato e dell’Accolitato.
La protezione del Signore si è estesa a tutta la geografia della nostra Congregazione preservandoci dal contagio del coronavirus. Tutti i confratelli, pur con diversi contagiati per la loro presenza attiva nelle case della nostra carità, sono guariti o in fase di guarigione. Certo abbiamo avuto tra i nostri ospiti, specie in Italia, molti morti, e per loro abbiamo elevato a Dio la preghiera del suffragio e l’invocazione della misericordia divina.
Ancora una volta permetteteci di ringraziare tutti coloro che si sono prodigati in questo tempo di calamità. Un grazie ai Padri Provinciali per il coordinamento e il sostegno che hanno garantito a tutte le comunità, grazie a tutti voi confratelli in prima linea nelle Case e Centri. Che bella testimonianza avete saputo dare a noi e al mondo con la vostra fedeltà, nonostante le misure che avete dovuto applicare, nelle relazioni con i nostri ospiti. Un grazie a tutto il personale, sia assistenziale che tecnico-amministrativo delle nostre Case, ai volontari per la vicinanza e condivisione di responsabilità che ci hanno fatto sentire in questo momento così preoccupante. Un grazie vogliamo dirlo anche alla Associazione ASCI e ai benefattori che non ci hanno lasciato mancare anche il loro sostegno economico in questo momento di necessità.
Ora piano piano si sta riprendendo la nostra vita e attività normale, portiamo evidenti i segni del passaggio della pandemia sia nello spirito, come memoria di un tempo di prova, di solitudine, di morte, sia a livello di un calo numerico di ospiti che ha prodotto una diminuzione degli introiti ordinari, e un incremento delle spese per le procedure igienico sanitarie richieste soprattutto ora nella gestione delle nostre strutture. Molte delle nostre Case sono in grave difficoltà economica per queste conseguenze che il coronavirus ha introdotto nelle nostre istituzioni. Non sarà facile risollevarsi da questa situazione.
Coraggio confratelli! Non perdiamo la speranza proprio in questo momento liturgico nel quale il Signore mantiene la promessa di inviare in mezzo a noi il Paracleto, lo Spirito consolatore, ma anche creatore e rinnovatore secondo le logiche del Vangelo. Affidiamoci a Lui anche nella ricerca, nello studio e riflessione comune che in questi tempi bisognerà mettere in campo per capire e affrontare nel migliore dei modi la situazione difficile che ci accompagna. Non risparmiamo tempo ed energie per questo studio, pronti anche ad assumere con coraggio le conseguenze conclusive anche quando queste comportino sacrifici, cambio di mentalità e di impostazione nella gestione futura delle nostre Opere.
Il bene che stiamo facendo nelle nostre Case di carità è rivolto ai più deboli, vulnerabili, spesso ultimi della società, prediletti dalla Divina Provvidenza, ci diceva il nostro santo Fondatore. La nostra missione è nel suo nome, lo facciamo perché Dio ci ha mandati a loro “come speciale prolungamento nella storia del suo amore di Padre” (VC 19).
Avanti, dunque, con tutta la forza, la serenità e la pace del cuore che lo Spirito ci viene a portare. Vogliamoci sempre bene e insieme affrontiamo le avversità, avremo più capacità e possibilità di superarle. Auguri!
In questo giorno in cui la liturgia ci fa ricordare un grande amico della nostra Opera, san Paolo VI, il Papa che beatificò il nostro Fondatore e il primo Papa che visitò la nostra Opera, vi lascio una preghiera allo Spirito Santo da lui composta. Preghiamola insieme in questi giorni perché anche sulla nostra cara Congregazione lo Spirito con ciascuno di noi possa scrivere pagine belle di risurrezione.
Vieni, o Spirito Santo e donami un cuore puro,
pronto ad amare Cristo Signore
con la pienezza, la profondità e la gioia che tu solo sai infondere.
Donami un cuore puro, come quello di un fanciullo
che non conosce il male se non per combatterlo e fuggirlo.
Vieni, o Spirito Santo
e donami un cuore grande, aperto alla tua parola ispiratrice
e chiuso ad ogni meschina ambizione.
Donami un cuore grande e forte capace di amare tutti,
deciso a sostenere per loro ogni prova, noia e stanchezza,
ogni delusione e offesa.
Donami un cuore grande, forte e costante fino al sacrificio,
felice solo di palpitare con il cuore di Cristo
e di compiere umilmente, fedelmente
e coraggiosamente la volontà di Dio.

Dear Confreres,
in this solemnity of Pentecost, the General Council wishes to reach each and everyone of you with our greeting and our wish of steady health, while the period of pandemics is still on, and of a rich spiritual experience with the great gift of the Spirit that is given us.
This month of May that is about to close made us see and touch how the Father’s Providence did not abandon us, but gave us – even amidst difficulties and suffering caused by the Covid-19 – the good taste of infinite gifts of love and grace.
In these last days we had many new Guanellian religious who professed for their first time or pronounced their perpetual vows: from Asia (India, Philippines, Vietnam), Latin America, Africa, Italy. Our Good God is blessing us still with a good number of seminarians in our Formation Houses where they renewed in these days their consecration to God for a year and celebrated the stages of the Ministries of Lector and Acolyte.
God’s protection has covered the entire geography of our Congregation sparing us from the outbreak of coronavirus. All the confreres, even with several of them affected due to their active presence in the houses of our charity, have recovered or are on the way to recovery. True, we have suffered the loss of many of our recipients, especially in Italy. For them we raised to God our prayer and the invocation to Divine mercy.
Allow us to thank once again all those who have done all they could in this period of real calamity. A special thank to the Provincials for their effort of co-ordination and support they granted to all the communities. Thanks to all of you Confreres of the first lines in our Houses and Centres. What a beautiful witness you have offered to us and to the world with your being faithful, even with the required procedures to implement, in the relationship with our recipients. A big thank to all the workers, both those in charge of direct assistance and those of technical and administration support, to the volunteers for their closeness and sharing of responsibility we felt in these moments of alarm. Thanks also to the ASCI Association and to the benefactors who didn’t let us go lacking their financial support in this period of need.
Now we are slowly resuming our normal life and activity, carrying very clear signs of the passage of this pandemic both in spirit, as the memory of a time of trial, of loneliness, of death, and also with a reduction in the number of recipients that causes a drop of income and increase expenses for the required hygienic-sanitary procedures especially now in managing our activities. Many of our Houses face serious economic hardship as a consequence of the situations introduced by the coronavirus. Rising up again from this situation will not be an easy task.
Courage, confreres! Let us not lose hope in this liturgical moment when the Lord is keeping His promise to send among us the Paraclete, the Spirit comforter, but also creator and renewing according to the Gospel logic. Let us entrust ourselves to Him also in our research, in studying and reflecting together as we must do at this time to better understand and find the way to face the difficult situation that has come to meet us. Let us not spare time and energy in this study, ready also to take with courage the necessary conclusions, even when they require sacrifice, change of
mentality and of pattern in the future management of our Works.
The good we are producing in our Houses of charity is in favour of the weaker ones, the more vulnerable, often the last ones in society, the beloved of Divine Providence, as our holy Founder said. Our mission is in his name, we do it because God has sent to them “the prolongation in history of a special presence of the Risen Lord” (VC 19).
Always forward, then, with all the strength, the serenity and peace of heart that the Spirit is coming to give us. Let us always love one another and face together any adversity, we will have better ability and possibility to overcome them. Best Wishes!
In this day, the liturgy calls us to remember a great friend of our Works, St. Paul VI. He was the pope who beatified our Founder and the first pope who visited our Houses. I hand over to you a prayer to the Holy Spirit composed by him. Let us pray it together in these days, so that also on our dear Congregation the Spirit may write, with each one of us, beautiful pages of resurrection.
Come, Holy Spirit, and give me a pure heart,
Ready to love Christ the Lord
With the fullness, the depth, and the joy that only you can instill.
Give me a pure heart, like a child’s heart
Who knows evil only to oppose and escape it.
Come, Holy Spirit,
And give me a big heart, open to your inspiring word
And closed to any mean ambition.
