“LISTEN TO THE CRY OF THE EARTH AND THE CRY OF THE POOR WHO SUFFER MORE.”- POPE FRANCIS
“The poor man cried and the lord heard Him” (Ps 34:6).
In the backdrop of the corona virus (Covid-19) scare affecting the livelihoods of daily wage earners due to slowing down of the economy, the words of the psalmist become our own when we encounter the different conditions of suffering and marginalization experienced by so many of our brothers and sisters. In today’s situation as we all are locked down, the poor cannot come to us, but we need to reach out to the poor.
We the fathers in the Provincialate community, in solidarity with the poor, decided to take care of the families at least those who are nearby, by giving them some provisions for their nourishment. Our focus was on the poor families of the children who come for the tuition every day, the handicapped and also the deserving families in our locality. We went to house to house distributing the bags of groceries and some vegetables which are their bare necessities. Someone rightly said we cannot eradicate poverty and pain from the world but can lighten them by our kind gesture.
All those who received this small material help expressed their gratitude to God and to us. This tiny help in a small way may be answering the cry of the poor. Along with other intentions, we remember families in particular, during our daily prayer. We accompany them in their life of poverty by our little sacrifices. By feeling one with the poor, in our thoughts and in our living, we imitate Christ the poor and our protector Don Guanella.
